Inspiring Female athlete Chrissie Wellington

Cherie Lathey,  Clive Lathey,  Chrissie Wellington,  Doctor Courtney Kipps

We had a day of talks and treatments at The Putney clinic of physical therapy on Saturday. Our main speaker of the day - was the four times world champion Ironman Chrissie Wellington.

What an amazing inspirational speaker she is...and a fantastic role model for young women.
Her book "life without limits" is well worth a read. I don't need to relate everything I write here to yoga, but some of Chrissie experiences really resonated with me...Obviously I have not achieved the magnificent world titles, but I have worked through pain and fear in my ashtanga yoga practice (and in life)....
Chrissie described pain in the body shifting as she embarked on triathlons and Ironman events..IE.a pain that starts in the shoulder as you embark on your event ( or on your mat), can disappear along the way only to relocate to another part of the body..this is where the training of the mind plays such an important role...limiting ourselves can hold us back from our true potential-read the book or try and get along to one of Chrissies talks, and practice her mantra "never give up" a life without limits.

In 2007, Chrissie Wellington shocked the triathlon world by winning the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. As a newcomer to the sport and a complete unknown to the press, Chrissie's win shook up the sport. A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS is the story of her rise to the top, a journey that has taken her around the world, from a childhood in England, to the mountains of Nepal, to the oceans of New Zealand, and the trails of Argentina, and first across the finish line.

Wellington's first-hand, inspiring story includes all the incredible challenges she has faced--from anorexia to near--drowning to training with a controversial coach. But to Wellington, the drama of the sports also presents an opportunity to use sports to improve people's lives.

A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS reveals the heart behind Wellington's success, along with the diet, training and motivational techniques that keep her going through one of the world's most grueling events.

Neti pot

When I was training to be a yoga teacher, one of the 6 purification techniques taught to us was Jala Neti ( also called Neti or Jaaneti). Purification techniques are sometimes performed as a way of preparing the body for a yoga practice. Whenever the neti pots came out, I disappeared, always needing to be somewhere else at that moment in time… I had many techniques to avoid it: the bathroom, the water fountain, the shop, anything but the Net. Pouring a saline solution up my hooter was really not for me and I have avoided it right up to today. I have got a steaming cold and, as a result, I now have sinus pain, so I have decided to give it another go. Talk about waiting until your back is against the wall! I rushed to the Sivanada yoga studio nearby and bought myself a ceramic neti pot and salt. I had to follow the one photographic image as the instructions were in German!!! Although I did not find it as unpleasant as some people describe, it was not as bad as I remembered. So I will us

All about the balance

A snap from inside my fridge this week. The mix of wine, beer and Vita Coca sort of sums up my family really. The ones that drink wine and beer don't go in for the coco water, and the coco water drinker doesn't go in for wine or beer. In summary, none of us need worry about the other nicking all the drinks. :-)
