From pregnancy to giving birth with yoga.

Dr Françoise Barbira Freedman presents:
From pregnancy to giving birth with yoga: A birthlight workshop Sunday 24 July 2011 5– 7pm Triyoga Primrose Hill Everyone is welcome £50 per couple or £25 for one person.
In Ayurveda, as well as in other world traditions, pregnancy is a special time for mothers to grow strong and well together with their babies.
This workshop is for mothers to be and partners (or supporting close friend or relative) and it is based on the principles of Birthlight, a charitable trust founded by Dr. Freedman.
Birthlight aims to promote the greater enjoyment of pregnancy, birth and babies using Yoga and breathing methods to enhance your and your baby’s well-being. Birth 'light' refers to giving birth lightly, without undue strain on the body and making full use of the breath, it also refers to the ‘light’ that can shine around birth. Triyoga comes to the Kings Road Chelsea.

I am so excited Triyoga is coming to my neck of the woods in Chelsea,south-west London.
Central and north London seemed to have had the monopoly on yoga studios for a number of years and the south-west was distinctly lacking on the yoga front, but not anymore!
Triyoga opens its new studios on the trendy Kings road, on Saturday 2nd of July. The new centre will have three beautiful light studios, three treatment rooms, an organic café, a juice bar, a cool area to hang out with friends and a shop.
The classes on offer will be for the complete newcomer to yoga to the more advanced Ashtanga Mysore practice. A wide range of treatments and therapies will also be available (see link belowf or more details). Triyoga often have some of the world's best yoga teachers pay them a visit. They run some of the best yoga workshops in London, which is why I'm so excited.

Osteopathy at triyoga soho

On a recent visit to the triyoga centre in Soho, I visited the on-site osteopath Rob Hill. I have used osteopathy, alongside my yoga practice, for many years and find they work really well together keeping the body healthy, flexible and strong.
Rob gave a thorough examination and took a case history, before giving me any physical treatment. I - like many who practice or teach yoga - had a sacroiliac joint (lower back) strain, which caused some discomfort in other areas. Rob was able to diagnosis and give the appropriate treatment for this condition, which I found really helped my back pain.
It was very interesting for me to have treatment from an osteopath who also practices yoga (I am married to one who doesn’t do yoga). I think this enables the practitioner to have an extra understanding of how and why yogis do what they do; as well as having an insight into the common injuries faced by yoga students.
I was given some stretches to take away and practice and I feel that all areas were c…

David Swenson at triyoga soho

The internationally-recognised Ashtanga yoga teacher David Swenson will be teaching at triyoga Soho from the 26th November until the 5th of December 2010. This is a great opportunity to practice with one of the “old school” Ashtanga yoga teachers.

David was my first yoga teacher way back in 1994. Since then, I have not had the chance to attend any of his classes or workshops. However, I have booked a place on the “hands on” adjustment workshop that he will be holding. There are a number of workshops on offer, from led primary series classes to a yoga teacher training intensive. So there is something for everyone!

I have mentioned to a number of my yoga students that they should take the rare chance to go and practice yoga with David. Some of them, however, feel slightly intimidated at the prospect.

When I meet him on a Greek island 16 years ago, I had no idea who he was and had never practised yoga before. David has a passion for yoga which he clearly loves to share. It is true that he c…
